- Wednesday night I was watching the Discover Channel (TDC) on the tube. It
- was one of thier new science shows and the host talked about algae and
- the problems it was causing farmer's ponds and canals in England. Anyway
- he said they had discovered that when straw (hay?) fell into the water
- with the algae the algae started to die. It seems that that the rotting
- process of straw releases a natural algacide! They also stated that it
- did not harm the fish in the ponds and canals and that it did not harm
- high plant life.
-
- Did anyone else catch this?
-
- Has anyone tried it?
-
- I would think it might be better to try it in a outdoor pond instead
- of an aquarium.
-
- I don't what the rotting straw would do the clarity of the water though.
-
- Any comments or ideas?
-
- Maybe a new product will come of this that will get rid of algae and
- not harm the rest of the tanks occupants.
