  16. Many Vietnamese now hold significant social and economic positions
  17. in Canada and the US. Many also have the vote. If you have issues 
  18. that you want to expose to the world, do so.

  20. In past years, the US Israel lobby grew from a foundation of basically
  21. poor economic migrants. Same with the US Irish lobby. These groups 
  22. have made their places in North America and have to be reckoned with
  23. (sometimes appeased) by the political bodies that make policy.

  25. This was the first I have heard about suicides in refugee
  26. camps. I presume this refers to the Vietnamese refugees held in camps 
  27. in various parts of the world. The last I heard was that forcible
  28. "repatriation" was being routinely carried out in Hong Kong and other
  29. places. Apalling is the only word to describe the situation.

  31. Personally, I am an "economic refugee" from the U.K. What else do you
  32. call someone who leaves their homeland for a better life in another,
  33. safer, more peaceful society? Britain is not such a difficult place
  34. to live as Vietnam is, either. No-one is questioning my right to remain
  35. in Canada. The obvious conclusion is one you are all aware of anyway 
  36. - racism.
