- The next meeting of the Ottawa Carleton Unix Users' Group will be held
- on Wednesday, February 17th, 1992 at 7:30 pm in Room A3, Algonquin
- College, Rideau Campus, 200 Lees Avenue. (Room A3 is at the extreme
- southeast end of the campus.)
-
- The speaker this month will be Jim Sullivan, Manager, System Engineering
- Group, SCO Canada who will be speaking on multiprocessing and SCO MPX.
-
- The simple PC has progressed significantly over the past three years
- with the introduction of industry-standard multiprocessor platforms.
- The systems stretch the definition of a Personal Computer, offering
- power and performance at a price point that breaks all previous
- records. Unfortunately, there is a general misunderstanding of how
- multiprocessing works in the Intel/Open Systems environments and
- where/when you will see benefits.
-
- SCO currently ships the only shrink-wrapped open system operating
- system that supports multiprocessing. In this talk we will discuss
- some of the features of the Intel Multiprocessing Platforms and SCO
- MPX, as well as discuss where a multiprocessing platform fits within
- a business.
-
- Jim Sullivan is the Manager of the System Engineering Group in SCO
- Canada. He's been involved in UNIX and Open Systems for 8 years,
- first as a developer for HCR Corporation and subsequently as a
- Operating System Product Specialist and System Engineer. SCO is the
- leader in installed UNIX systems, with over 25% of the total installed
- UNIX systems and over 75% of the installed Intel UNIX systems.
-
- Please note that the date of the March meeting has been changed to March
- 24th, 1993. This is one week later the usual.
-
- The Ottawa Carleton Unix Users' Group (also sometimes known as ocunix
- and as OCRI Unix) is sponsored by the Ottawa Carleton Research Institute
- (OCRI) and meets on the third Wednesday of each month except during July
- and August. Membership is free and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
