  14. Folks, the varied discussions regarding splitting or re-reorganizing
  15. Rec.arts.startrek have turned into a babel of babble. It's time to take a
  16. deep breath and step back a second.

  18. There is only one Formal Proposal on the table -- to create
  19. Rec.arts.startrek.reviews. I won't go into the details of the proposal, as
  20. they've been beaten up thoroughly already...but the point is that that is
  21. the only RFD'd proposal.

  23. Therefore, NO OTHER DISCUSSION OF REORGANIZING THE TREK GROUPS BELONGS ON
  24. NEWS.GROUPS. News.groups is for the discussion of proposals for which a
  25. Request For Discussion has been posted and a formal proposal floated.

  27. There has been no formal Request For Discussion regarding any of the three
  28. or four different schemes I've seen so far to split
  29. rec.arts.startrek.current, and in my opinion, there SHOULD NOT BE until the
  30. .reviews issue is dealt with.

  32. Waiting for .reviews to go through the whole process, including the Call
  33. for Votes, will also allow people to cool off, think seriously about what,
  34. if any split, is REALLY needed (it's far too early to be able to tell, I
  35. think), and come up with a solid proposal.

  37. Let's deal with one thing at a time. The .current volume is NOT an
  38. emergency right now. (Neither is the creation of a .reviews group, but
  39. that's the proposal that's on the floor). While I recognize that it MIGHT
  40. become one now that both DS9 and TNG have new stories on at the same time,
  41. we need to deal with these things in a more orderly manner than we
  42. currently (no pun intended) are.
