- Don't forget Contra Dancing. Absolutely NOTHING beats Contra dancing
- for meeting singles. For those not familiar with it, contra dances are
- a sort of cross between square dancing and line dance. Partners are usually
- grouped in sets of two (four people) and basically walk or jog (or whatever)
- through a pattern which is controlled (and sometimes designed) by the caller.
-
- The dances ALWAYS start with a 'walk through' of the basic pattern first so
- that everyone knows what to do and beginners are encouraaged to come. I have
- screwed up more contra dance lines than I care to think about, but everyone
- is having so much fun that nobody cares :-)
-
- You can usuall find them sponsored by community colleges, church groups.
-
- The best part is that traditionally you are supposed to change
- partners at every dance and women are encouraged (and do) ask
- men to dance a set as often as men as the women.
-
- Prepare to sweat a lot and get a lot of good exercise and have a
- lot of fun. (Wear comfortable crepe soled shoes.)
-
- May the farce be with you,
- Rudy
