  13. Am I glad that someone got the ball rolling.  I miss a day reading 
  14. the news, and lo and behold, there are 13 messages in ne.singles.
  15. It's like the watched kettle that never boils.  I was too chicken
  16. to start posting myself and I thought maybe the group wasn't what
  17. it seemed to be.

  19. Obviously, the distribution of ne.singles would not be limited
  20. to NY.  And I know for a fact that one gets it in MA - aren't I
  21. smart?  But is there a way to globally limit distribution to NE 
  22. and NY?  If people neglect to specify the distribution will the
  23. postings go all over the world like in other groups?  That would
  24. be a pity.  Where can I look up abbreviations that are understood 
  25. by usenet (for distribution)?  Will "ne" work?  "ne,ny"?

  27. Anyway, I'd love to meet some people (or "talk" to them) who might
  28. share some of my interests and characteristics.  I just started
  29. an assistant professorship in chemistry at Smith College in
  30. Northampton, MA (in the middle of the state, equidistant from
  31. Boston and Albany, Hartford and Burlington).  I am a 29-yr-old
  32. woman, an avid horse riding enthusiast who also loves to read
  33. novels and mysteries, to travel in Europe, to dance (especially
  34. ballroom dancing), and to converse (and who does not approve of
  35. MENSA - no flame intended, just a statement of fact).

  37. Whereas I would be ecstatic about, say, a Nobel prize or a gold
  38. medal in an Olympic dressage competition, I would be content to
  39. find some friends in the area who might like to go riding or
  40. dancing with me.  And if there were actually an interesting 
  41. MAN among them, that would be quite nice.  (I am 5'7", slender,
  42. and attractive, and I have brown hair and hazel eyes.)  
  43. Meanwhile, I am happy if I can find some people on the net to
  44. "talk" to about anything and everything.
