  19. distributed information systems.  I-Kinetics' products enable
  20. organizations to bring the complete power of their enterprise information
  21. systems onto the desktop.

  23. Job Description
  24. ---------------
  25. Environment: 
  26. Downtown Boston, Financial District [a block from Fanuiel Hall]
  27. Financial Trading and Information Systems of 300+ Sun workstations,
  28. 20+ specialized servers,Cisco routers, FDDI, the works.  
  29. A Sun Microsystems "strategic" account.
  30.  
  31. The environment is primarily Sun based
  32. consisting of Sun workstations and servers, PC's, network equipment
  33. (Cisco routers, Cabletron hubs and bridges), various market data
  34. feeds, and gateways to UUNET and to 3270 and 5250 systems.  
  35.  
  36. I-Kinetics, Inc currently has a long-term contract to design, develop
  37. and maintain this client's large distributed Sun/Unix system.
  38.  
  39. Position requires:
  40. () extensive network experience in SunOS or other BSD/SYSV UNIX
  41. environments.
  42.  
  43. () ability to administrate, support and troubleshoot an existing
  44. network environment with extends internationally.
  45.  
  46. () Experience with LAN analyzers (and actually have solved problems
  47. using them).
  48.  
  49. () proven ability to interpret statistics and detect trends to
  50. fine-tune network performance and plan for efficient growth.
  51.  
  52. () ability to develop and implement network management applications
  53. with an emphasis in network administration.
  54.  
  55. Other skill pluses include:
  56.  
  57. () Previous experience with financial trading environments and market
  58. data feeds is a moby plus.
  59.  
  60. () broad knowledge of computer networking, included areas are: LANs,
  61. WANs, SunOS, network protocols: IPX, SDLC, and FDDI, ATM, X.25.
  62.  
  63. () Technical consultation and hands on implementation in the following
  64. areas: LAN, WAN, and internetworking design, NIS, security, network
  65. architecture and layout, emerging technology evaluation, RDBMS, and
  66. client/server technology.  
  67.  
  68. () Experience with Sybase, X-Windows, Motif
  69. performance tuning and product lifecycle management a plus.  
  70.  
  71. () SNMP network tools using SunNet manager and other network
  72. administration tools.

  74. Requirements: 
  75. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.  
  76. Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality operational support.
