- The Worcester Center Galleria was a very busy, well-occupied mall for about 15
- years before it started to die off in the late '80s. As an early '70s
- mall rat at Worcester Center, I can attest to how good it used to be, back in
- the days when it had restaurants and movie theaters and book stores and
- decadent bakeries and the like. Even now, it's still not completely dead. And
- it sounds like it may be somewhat revived by next fall, with an outlet mall.
-
- Worcester has a much smaller downtown area, and once Denholms and the like
- closed, even more of the retail left for Greendale and Auburn. However, there
- are plenty of little restaurants and offices and clubs in downtown Worcester,
- in between the "For Rent" signs.
-
- Lafayette Place never got off the ground and has since died. Outside of the
- Lafayette Place area, retail in downtown Boston is still doing pretty well.
- Copley Place seems pretty good, and the Prudential Center Mall is being
- completely rebuilt.
