- If you want to select for any physical or behavioural feature, just
- select animals with that feature (e.g., longer legs, calmer
- temperament) and breed them together; reselect the offspring and do
- it again. The other option is to find a closely related breed with
- the desired feature and cross the. The canary people got red
- canaries by crossing canaries with red siskins--most were infertile
- but a few were fertile.
- Most farmers practice some selection, if a cow is wild, she gets sold
- and her offspring get sold; you keep the bull from the "best" cow,
- the best being those with the characteristics that you want like your
- longer legs.
