- We had a similar incident, when Angelica ran into the kitchen when the floor
- had been freshly waxed and she took a flying skid (like a flying leap but
- she left skid marks in the wax) across the room into the door jam.
-
- At first she seemed OK, she got a big bump right away, which is a good
- sign, her eyes looked OK and she was alert. But about 1/2 hour later she
- fell asleep -- and she was so soundly asleep we couldn't awaken her for
- about 30 minutes. This was the day the L.A. riots broke out (she slipped
- about the time the news was showing people being pulled from vehicles and
- beaten), and we were a bit apprehensive at the thought of going out under
- those circumstances (hospital was about 4 miles away, at the time it was
- about 4 miles north of the riot area, but we were the only people of non-color
- :-) within a mile or so and we didn't want to become targets of violence).
-
- When Angelica did finally wake up, she was drowsy and lethargic, so we knew
- we had to go. The emergency room at the hospital was gearing up for crisis,
- and they kept telling us how long it would take to be seen (after giving her
- an initial check by a nurse). Three hours later, when she finally got her CAT
- scan, she was as alert and feisty as ever. Sitting in the emergency room
- we had a great view of the paramedics dashing in and out and telling stories
- of being shot at.
-
- The CAT scan was normal, but under the circumstances the doctor said
- it was correct to bring her in. She did have a monster lump on her
- head for about a week.
-
- And the rioting didn't hit our neighborhood until the following day.
