- : What is "wrong" with it is that it sets up a power struggle over food. It is
- : the dictates of an authoritarian parent telling his child "eat this or go
- : hungry". Reminds me of the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast".
-
- : You are probably an authoritarian parent and that is your perogative. But
- : most of the parents on this net tend more "democratic" parenting than
- : "authoritarian" parenting and this is just one example of the differences of
- : approach.
-
- : What is wrong with letting them eat spaghettios or macaroni and cheese and
- : fixing yourself something more to your tastes at the same time? It isn't
- : like their prefered dishes take a lot of time to cook. In fact, you could
- : fix your dinner for yourself and just heat the kids dinners in the background.
-
- Better yet, give the kids responsibility for their own stubbornness (which is
- the problem most of the time) and at the same time they learn self-sufficiency.
- Let them fix their own! If that happens to be PB+J so be it.
-
- We have been authoritarian to a point. If it's something new, they have to
- try it for at least one meal. Once this sytem was in place and firmly
- applied we've had very few complaints, and the kids are learning to enjoy more
- types of food because of it.
