- I'm hoping this will work again when it's needed & that I don't jinx our
- luck by posting, so here goes:
-
- Mickey is very hard to wake up in the morning; it sometimes takes us 30
- minutes or more to get him awake enough to go downstairs for breakfast.
- It finally occurred to me this morning that we should use the sleepy
- time to get him changed & dressed - since he's not fighting us & those
- 30 minutes are otherwise "wasted". Once he's dressed, he can have his
- breakfast.
-
- It worked great this morning. He's no harder to change when he's sleepy
- than his baby sister is (actually easier, since he rolls over more
- slowly). The actions of changing him are smooth & gentle (instead of us
- battling to get diaper pins in, etc.) and he woke up gradually as I
- worked with him. When it was time to put his socks on, he held up one
- foot, then the other. By the time we were ready to pull up his pants,
- he was groggy enough to stand up & lean against me, and then put his
- arms in his shirt. After he was dressed, I let him lie down in my bed
- while I went off to get my shower. After Daddy had breakfast ready,
- Mickey was awake enough to go downstairs & eat. It was a remarkably
- peaceful morning in our house!
-
- This may fall in the category of "Duh, I thought everyone knew that",
- but we didn't & we're happy to have one more trick to try.
