- Reading readiness hits different kids at different ages. Rather than wait
- until age 7 to teach reading, it makes sense to me to wait, unless you get
- clues that a kid wants to read earlier. I read well before 5, and no one
- taught me. I just did. I suspect Alex may be the same. He knew all letters
- (untaught) and could spell and recognize his name (taught) by 2 1/2. He also
- reads one other word: NO :-). He "spells" all the time - random letters as
- far as we can tell. We read, together and separately, all the time. So I
- suspect one day we'll just notice he can actually do it. I'll wait a couple
- years (he's exactly 3) before I pay any attention to reading skills otherwise.
