- I recently (2 weeks ago) started using Hooked on Phonics with my 7 year old,
- who is in first grade and is near the bottom of her class in reading. The
- tapes, cards, and books are pretty good -- the tapes have a background
- rhythm with unobtrusive music (like palatable rap) that seems to help
- engage her. In the last two weeks, she has made *remarkable* progress.
- And every night she looks forward to working on this with me. Of course,
- whether it is the program itself or the extra time I am putting in (about
- a half-hour per day), I don't know. (The half hour per day partly displaces
- time I was putting in before; I guess I have added 15 minutes per day on
- average of time helping her learn to read.) Anyway, after 2 weeks I am
- very happy with Hooked on Phonics. I will post a follow-up report after
- a couple of months, and then a longer-run report on my experience with it.
