When I asked my doctor during my postnatal check-up for the cervical
cap she said I couldn't use it while I was breastfeeding - I don't
remember the reason ( I think it had something to do with the change
of the cervix during breastfeeding).
I only read in one book (don't remember which - it was almost three years
ago!) that the cervical cap wasn't o.k. while breastfeeding - all the others
recommended it as one option!
Any other experiences?
(Btw, I tried the mini-pill but had also the feeling that my milk-supply droppedthe moment I started taking it - I ended up with the diaphram and was - am -
very satisfied with it.)
That is the first *I've* heard of the cap not being recommended for
breastfeeding moms. My midwife (with many breastfeeding moms!) has
many women on it.
It has definitely worked well for me in preventing pregnancy -
whenever we have had sex w/o birth control, we've made another Sylvan
that month. Seems our fertility rate is very high. I did get pregnant
once with a diaphragm. A diaphragm also isn't good to use if you are
gaining or losing weight - the fit needs to be checked every (10?) lbs
of weight change, whereas the actual cervix doesn't change much in
size. Matter of fact, my cervical cap is the same size as it was after
the birth of my first (when I first got it).
YMMV
