  12. Our toddler learned to make this shriek from another kid.  She already
  13. had good verbal skills, so as soon as she started to do it, I would
  14. tell her to say "I don't like that" when she feels that way, and that
  15. people would understand her better than if she made sounds.  Believe
  16. it or not, after doing this for about a week and a half, she dropped
  17. the sound altogether.  Of course we got to hear a lot of "I don't like
  18. that", but at least this doesn't split eardrums.
