- Most residencies start July 1st. Delivering a baby at a teaching
- hospital in July can be interesting. A friend of mine had a 1st year
- intern attempt to install an internal baby monitor. After a lot of
- hassle (including reading a Intro OB text book in front of my friend!),
- the resident declared that her gloves were the wrong size! That was
- my friend's first kid. In hindsight she would have put a stop to that
- resident's work when the text book popped out.
-
- I also had a baby in July. I found the residents to be wonderful, so
- I was lucky. I did have one medical student visit me often during my
- inducement (it took a while to get started), who was very
- knowledgeable and very personable. During the transition phase of
- labor, another med student stopped in. It was his first day or week
- on the Labor and Delivery floor. I didn't say a word to him and he
- didn't say a word to me. My husband was under orders to get rid of
- anyone who was a nuisance, but this guy wasn't bothering me. Finally
- he said, "I guess this isn't a good time for you now" and he left. I
- have to say that he really cracked me up, and as well as I was able, I
- laughed!
-
- Any more July 1st-year-resident stories?
