- Since the majority of men in the US are still circumcised, I would venture
- that there had to be some other countries included in this study. Was there
- a careful evaluation of hygene and living conditions in this study?

- Well, as a female with recurring UTI's I have never had it suggested that
- I reconstruct my urethra to stop having them. The only reconstruction I
- know of in this area for women is for incontinency.
-
- From what I have read, when men hit their later years, the prostrate naturally
- begins to enlarge. This can block the flow of urine and cause an increase
- in the possibility of UTI's. The recommended cure for this was to ensure
- that the male push all the urine out into the stream so that none can be
- backed up to get infected. This recommendation was no different for intact
- and circumcised penises.
-
- During the last circumcision wars a male who had undergone adult circumcision
- commented on the procedure and from what it sounded like, it was no more
- traumatic than my recent septoplasty (which was miserable enough, thank you).
- So, while I can think of preventative medicine as a valid way to live, I have
- to question surgery on infants to prevent a chance at the same surgery
- later.
-
- I am not saying that I want in any way to infringe on the rights of parents
- to choose as they see fit. But I do think we have to look at the medical
- evidence as questionable. I think circumcision as preventitive medicine falls
- into the same category as hysterectomies for preventative medicine. Once
- a woman has had a hysterectomy, there is very little chance she will get
- uterine cancer. Yet this standard medical practice of 10 years or so ago has
- come under great questioning. I think circumcision to prevent UTI's in adult
- males should be examined just as closely and just as carefully.
-
- However, that said, I don't expect that just because someone examined the same
- evidence as I did and came to a different conclusion they are necessarily
- wrong. In the large scheme of life, it is a moot point as both circumcised
- and uncircumcised males have led happy, healthy lives for generations upon
- end.
