- I ferberize my little boy at about 6 months. At about 8
- months he started waking up in the middle of night again.
- This time, the ferber approach didn't work. When I went
- in and tried to calm him by talking, he just got madder
- and cried harder. I then re-read all my baby books and
- found one entry that stated that the crying out approach
- may be more effective with older children since as they
- get older, they have a stronger sense of what they want
- and if you go to him but don't give him what he wants, it
- could make the situation worse. So, I tried just letting him
- cry it out. It was hard but he didn't get nearly as upset as
- he use to when I went in and didn't pick him up. Eventually,
- he settled back into his old sleeping through the night
- routine.
-
- The only other comment I have is that I only did this because
- I was positive there was no other reasons for his
- crying (ie. I had him checked out for any physical problems)
- and because he was already a proven through the night
- sleeper (ie. I know he's not waking up because he's hungry).
- Otherwise, I don't think I would be comfortable with the
- decision to just let him cry.
-
- Hope this helps ... Lee
