- Design and build software tools to support the University's application
- programming environment. Develop solutions to inter-operability issues in
- a multi-dbms, distributed computing environment, as well as those
- associated with connecting existing mainframe applications (in a Stanford
- proprietary environment) to a standard client/server architecture.
- Address data management issues associated with the migration of
- hierarchical data to relational, client/server technologies. Participate
- in teams responsible for maintaining and developing application support
- tools and new information access products.

- Qualifications:

- Must be able to work in a demand-driven environment, with responsibility
- for sophisticated and interrelated software systems. Demonstrated
- knowledge and experience in high-level programming languages (C, C++ or
- Pascal), preferably in a multi-platform environment. Experience in the
- development of application services for needs like security, version
- control, authorization, etc., using client/server mechanisms such as RPC
- or messaging based APIs and familiarity with how such services interact
- with vendor supplied tools and interfaces. Knowledge of relational data
- base management systems and 4GLs. Experience with complex on-line
- transaction processing and inquiry environments and with the requirements,
- design and implementation of application development tools and services.
