  16. Description:

  18. Design and build software tools to support the University's application
  19. programming environment.  Develop solutions to inter-operability issues in
  20. a multi-dbms, distributed computing environment, as well as those
  21. associated with connecting existing mainframe applications (in a Stanford
  22. proprietary environment) to a standard client/server architecture.
  23. Address data management issues associated with the migration of
  24. hierarchical data to relational, client/server technologies.  Participate
  25. in teams responsible for maintaining and developing application support
  26. tools and new information access products.

  28. Qualifications:
  29.  
  30. Must be able to work in a demand-driven environment, with responsibility
  31. for sophisticated and interrelated software systems.  Demonstrated
  32. knowledge and experience in high-level programming languages (C, C++ or
  33. Pascal), preferably in a multi-platform environment.  Experience in the
  34. development of application services for needs like security, version
  35. control, authorization, etc., using client/server mechanisms such as RPC
  36. or messaging based APIs and familiarity with how such services interact
  37. with vendor supplied tools and interfaces.  Knowledge of relational data
  38. base management systems and 4GLs.  Experience with complex on-line
  39. transaction processing and inquiry environments and with the requirements,
  40. design and implementation of application development tools and services.
