- As a member of the Consulting Engineering team, the Senior Consulting
- Engineer will contribute to the design and development of special technical
- solutions to unique customer requirements. Very little travel. Emphasis
- on device drivers, SCSI peripherals.
- The responsibilities of this position include consulting and custom product
- development. This will involve analysis, design and implementation of a
- broad spectrum of unique hardware and/or software implementations. The
- purpose of this position is to satisfy specific customer related needs for
- non-standard products. The Senior Consulting Engineer will be called on to
- help troubleshoot problems in customized field installation, and implement
- creative fixes. This will include porting various device drivers to the
- Sparc platforms, and providing ongoing support for this driver.
- As a member of the Consulting Engineering team, the primary function of the
- Senior Consulting Engineer is to provide our customers with custom
- engineered solutions to their unique needs. It involves interfacing
- directly with our customers, analyzing their needs and developing creative
- solutions to their problems. The Senior Consulting Engineer will also work
- closely with the field sales force, supporting their sales efforts with
- technical assistance and advice as necessary. Frequent contact with
- suppliers and other outside companies will be required to stay apprised of
- the best technological solutions available. These efforts will often
- involve porting UNIX VME device drivers, or SCSI device drivers; also
- qualification or implementation of a wide menu of peripherals, such as disk
- and tape drives, attached array processors, or any of a number of unknown
- or unique devices. The Senior Consulting Engineer will be expected to take
- the group, and assuming technical project level leadership responsibilities.
- This is a strategic position and it is important that the Senior Consulting
- Engineer demonstrate a high level of proficiency and understanding of all
- hardware and software technology on contact with sales, service, and
- customers.
- As a minimum, a BSCS degree or equivalent work experience and knowledge is
- required, with an emphasis on Operating Systems and Software Design
- Techniques. 2-6 years experience is also required in the following areas:

- UNIX Internals
- Device Drivers
- SCSI Peripherals
- Extensive C Programming
- Direct Customer Interface
- Good Leadership and Communication Skills

- The following skills and knowledge would be useful:

- Experience with workstation peripherals - tape drives, cd-rom, etc.
- Experience with UNIX communications - TCP/IP, FDDI, Ethernet
- Experience troubleshooting using logic analyzers, OS debuggers
- Experience with SBUS or VMEbus devices
