  16. As a member of the Consulting Engineering team, the Senior Consulting
  17. Engineer will contribute to the design and development of special technical
  18. solutions to unique customer requirements.  Very little travel.  Emphasis
  19. on device drivers, SCSI peripherals.
  20. The responsibilities of this position include consulting and custom product
  21. development.  This will involve analysis, design and implementation of a
  22. broad spectrum of unique hardware and/or software implementations.  The
  23. purpose of this position is to satisfy specific customer related needs for
  24. non-standard products.  The Senior Consulting Engineer will be called on to
  25. help troubleshoot problems in customized field installation, and implement
  26. creative fixes.  This will include porting various device drivers to the
  27. Sparc platforms, and providing ongoing support for this driver.
  28. As a member of the Consulting Engineering team, the primary function of the
  29. Senior Consulting Engineer is to provide our customers with custom
  30. engineered solutions to their unique needs.  It involves interfacing
  31. directly with our customers, analyzing their needs and developing creative
  32. solutions to their problems.  The Senior Consulting Engineer will also work
  33. closely with the field sales force, supporting their sales efforts with
  34. technical assistance and advice as necessary.  Frequent contact with
  35. suppliers and other outside companies will be required to stay apprised of
  36. the best technological solutions available.  These efforts will often
  37. involve porting UNIX VME device drivers, or SCSI device drivers; also
  38. qualification or implementation of a wide menu of peripherals, such as disk
  39. and tape drives, attached array processors, or any of a number of unknown
  40. or unique devices.  The Senior Consulting Engineer will be expected to take
  41. the group, and assuming technical project level leadership responsibilities.
  42. This is a strategic position and it is important that the Senior Consulting
  43. Engineer demonstrate a high level of proficiency and understanding of all
  44. hardware and software technology on contact with sales, service, and
  45. customers.
  46. As a minimum, a BSCS degree or equivalent work experience and knowledge is
  47. required, with an emphasis on Operating Systems and Software Design
  48. Techniques.  2-6 years experience is also required in the following areas:

  50. UNIX Internals
  51. Device Drivers
  52. SCSI Peripherals
  53. Extensive C Programming
  54. Direct Customer Interface
  55. Good Leadership and Communication Skills
  56.  
  57. The following skills and knowledge would be useful:
  58.  
  59. Experience with workstation peripherals - tape drives, cd-rom, etc.
  60. Experience with UNIX communications - TCP/IP, FDDI, Ethernet
  61. Experience troubleshooting using logic analyzers, OS debuggers
  62. Experience with SBUS or VMEbus devices
  63.
