- >What is the significance in the removal of Akers as IBM's CEO?
- >Is this just a symbolic action -- signifying to shareholders that IBM is really
- >committed to change?
- >For just how much of IBM's reluctance to modify do _you_ believe Akers was
- >responsible?
- >What effect do _you_ forsee this having on investor confidence and share price?
- >I feel that in a way IBM is firing the coach after a really tough season. It
- >may not be entirely his fault, but someone has got to be blamed and "punished."
-
- Don't feel so bad for Akers... He was more the problem than the scapegoat.
- As manager, they screwed up so many of their new product lines that it was
- pitiful.... Here's a small list...
-
- - ROLM
- - PS/2 and OS/2 never dominated the market like the original PC.
- - Software on the mainframes never competed with that on the PCs
- eventhough the price was 50X more.
-
- Akers could have prevented the situation... However, he had no technological
- dream about the company and so there were no products delivered.
-
- This is a simple story about people who would not face reality about their
- set of products. Akers probably stepped on many people in order to get
- to his position. He made a lot of money at his job....
-
- Feel sorry for the people who worked for him and were laid off because
- of his decisions.
-
- Thank you.
