- I'm interested in gathering information on Investment
- Coops. I recently read an artical (though I can't
- remember where) that claimed 85% of all investment
- coops have a better return than the S&P 500, as
- opposed to 25% of Mutual Funds.
-
- As I understand it, investment coops are a group
- of folks who get together, pool their money, create
- an investment strategy, and make investments with their
- pooled money. This sounds attractive to me for several reasons:
-
- 1) I can have a direct input in the investment
- strategy (rather than leaving the up to some
- unknown fund manager as in a mutual fund).
- And the strategy can quickly change to take
- quick advantage of opportunities.
-
- 2) Pooled money makes diversification easier and
- creates opportunities for investment that I
- may not have with my modest investment budget.
-
- 3) Since the money to be invested belongs to
- the people making the investments, there will
- (hopefully) be more care and diligence applied
- to choosing investments than, say, an average
- Mutual fund.
-
- What I haven't found is a book on starting or finding
- an investment coop. It's seems like there would be many
- legal, tax, and logistical problems to overcome to make
- an investment coop work.
-
- I'm interested in finding information on investment coops.
- Any references, advice, or info you'd care to share would be helpful.
-
- Thanks in advance.
