- How does one go about setting up a foreign currency account?
-
- -Can you go through a local bank, do only larger banks do it?
-
- -Can you go through a full-service/discount broker?
-
- -What are the advantages/disadvantages of the above 2 options?
-
- -When you buy (for example British pounds) and open up a
- foreign currency account, do you get the interest rates that
- is currently being paid in that country?
-
- -What kind of taxes/fees/disincentives are there when you do
- this? (Do you pay taxes for the country you got it from, do
- you pay a special tax in the US for having the account, etc.)
-
- If these questions are too pedantic, could someone please point
- me to some literature to enlighten me on the subject? Thanks.
