- Please expand on this position. I kind of think Borland has been
- beat down pretty good and was thinking of bottom fishing here.
-
- 2 main reasons.
-
- C++ currently the fastest growing language. Borland has the *best*
- windows / dos overall compiler and development environment. It
- is a little expensive but not out of line with other products.
-
- Quattro Pro garnered quite a market share even though it was poorly
- marketed. Borland has shifted its marketing and has cut the price.
- I expect them to move up in market share after this. Technically
- the spreadsheet competes with Excel. (Lotus is not even in the
- ballpark yet in the windows arena, IMHO) I am curious to see
- if Borlands object oriented development of QP allows them to
- 'shift with market forces' better than the competition.
-
- They do have some losers. Object Vision is the most notable.
