- Mike,
-
- I think that the stock price has another factor besides the Clinton
- hysteria. BMY lost a case in Houston last month for $25M. The case
- against BMY was that the silicone breast implants produced by the
- company caused an irreversible medical condition. After loosing the
- case, many similar lawsuits have been filed. (The story that I am
- reading says 1150 have been filed, in the area around Houston,
- against several manufacturers)
-
- Before investing, maybe you should check into how much money is at
- stake if the company should loose all of the lawsuits and have to
- reward similar damages. What will the cost be to the shareholder?
-
- I had signed up to buy one share of BMY through the Moneypaper's drip
- program. Luckily, BMY recently upped their DRIP requirements to a 50
- share minimum, so the Moneypaper wouldn't buy the share for me.
-
- All in all, I think BMY is a great company. Their Taxol drug is very,
- very promising. (That's why I decided to buy BMY....besides their
- excellent earnings). Unfortunately, these pending cases are a black
- cloud hanging over the company. In the end, if they loose, it will be
- alot of new shareholders that get to pay for previous mistakes.
