- Dennis, your thoughts are most interesting. Something that a few from
- residential school in my area have stated is that they leave school with
- a chip on their shoulder, which was placed there by the school. Seems
- that they are told they must always be better than the rest and think of
- themselves in this manner. As a result, this attitude is not easily
- accepted by those who did not attend that school. It tends to create a
- closed environment which is self protective, but which tends to isolate
- the students from life beyond for a large portion of the year. This
- isolation can be true with a deaf residential school as well. The
- educational system is changing, and more are being integrated into the
- public school system, but thus far I have heard no mention of any
- threats re closure of residential schools. Mind you, the government has
- closed down many health care institutions due to financial cutbacks,
- forcing the occupants into the community, so who knows what happens
- next. My wife had to find a new job due to that cutback. TTYL
