- Well, I couldn't believe that unauthorized or possibly illegal
- detection of radio waves was protected in Part 95, so I looked
- in the regs and couldn't find anything. There is still a state
- or two with local laws against using radar detectors. Its my
- opinion that only authorized services are protected against
- interference--if your amateur transmitter sets off radar detectors
- is not your problem.
-
- I see no ethical problem with reminding someone going 85+ miles
- an hour (with 65 mile hour speed limits!) that they are going
- too fast. Isn't this what they bought the detector for? You just
- might prevent someone from getting a ticket because they weren't
- paying enough attention to their driving.
-
- Usually, these devices are set to 10.525 GHz, just outside the
- amateur band, but they aren't too difficult to move inside the
- amateur band--page 32-55 of the 1993 Handbook tells you how using
- two units and a 30 MHz frequency counter. While you are at it
- you might hook up a FM radios to the Gunn diodes and modulate the
- power supplies and see if you can make short distance contacts.
- Not anywhere as good as a real mixer, but it should work well
- enough to have fun. You might find that 10 GHz is actually cheaper
- and easier than other amateur bands!
