  50. The catch (there's always a catch). If there wasn't a catch, I'd be asking 
  51. about $5K for this jeep.  And in fact, just over a year ago (from a different 
  52. state), I posted it forsale at $5400.  The catch is that it isn't CA smogged.

  54. I have three options before me:
  55.   o Smog it myself: I have neither the time nor patience for this right now.
  56.   o Take it out of state to sell it:  My backup plan, but a big pain in the
  57.      butt for me.
  58.   o Sell it as an "off road recreation vehicle"...  ie. this post.

  60. This would be a *great* jeep for offroading.  It's ready to go.  Probably
  61. the only thing left to add is a big lighting system.

  63. If you're reading this post from out of CA, are looking for a 4X4, and have
  64. a way to pick this one up- it's a great deal.

  66. At this price, it's probably worth smogging.  I think smogging it for CA 
  67. would cost ~1700 (needs new exhaust manifolds w/ smog pumps, catalytic 
  68. converter, spark control, stock carb etc.)  But, that's paying 'retail' for
  69. parts and repairs, if you're handy or know someone who can do the work,
  70. I'm sure it could be done cheaper.  It would be sad though, to take all the
  71. high performance parts off of it- that's probably part of the reason I'm
  72. so reluctant to do it myself :-(.

  74. Buyer will be expected to sign a waiver stating that they are using the 
  75. Jeep for "off road" purposes (or taking it out of state) and won't hold me 
  76. responsible for it passing a CA smog test.
