- I'd make sure it's not already insulated, first. Most (all?) modern hot
- water heaters have insulation built into them.

- If yours doesn't, I'd go ahead and do it. How much can the insulating blanket
- cost? $20? Seems like if there's even a small amount of heat loss you'll
- get your money back pretty quickly in your utility bill.
