You improve your game of Bridge or Chess by playing the games of bridge or Chess. If one was to read about the rules of the game without actually playing and/or practicing these rules and skills, how would this help improve your game? I did not suggest that grammar should not be taught. I suggested that all grammar be taught in context. Teaching the rules regarding english grammar without practicing the rules in context to writing and/or speaking, seems useless to me. Traditionally, grammar was taug
ht via text books and worksheets as isolated skills. There's got to be a connection between learning proper grammar and using this knowledge for the purpose that it's intended - namely, writing and speaking!
