- CONFERENCE LOCATION
-
- Vancouver, Canada's third largest city, is noted for the beauty of its setting
- on the Pacific Ocean surrounded by mountains and provincial parks. The
- province of British Columbia contains some of the most spectacular mountain
- and coastal scenery in the world. Tourists in Vancouver can explore the parks,
- museums, public markets, shopping malls, ethnic districts, historical sites,
- restaurants, night life, cultural events and sports. The city celebrated its
- Centennial in 1986 and hosted "Expo 86", the 1986 World Exposition. Vancouver
- shows its ethnic diversity with a wealth of restaurants for every taste and
- budget.
-
- June is one of the mild months of the year. The daytime temperatures are
- usually in the range of 18 - 22 degrees Celsius. Occasional rain should be
- expected! At high altitude snow may remain throughout July.
-
- The high season for tourism and conventions in Vancouver begins in June. Early
- reservations of airline seats, hotel rooms and rental cars is highly
- recommended to guarantee your selection.
-
- The conference location is on the campus of the University of British Columbia.
- UBC is about 20 minutes by car from Vancouver International Airport or
- downtown Vancouver. A scenic drive along Spanish Banks leads from the centre
- of Vancouver to the University Endowment Lands.
-
- Vancouver International Airport is served by many international airlines which
- provide direct flights to Vancouver. U.S. Interstate I5 becomes BC highway 99
- at the US - Canada border and goes directly into Vancouver. Trans Canada
- Highway 1 leads east across Canada.
-
- Visitors to Canada are reminded that they will require proper documentation
- for Customs and Immigration.
