- Future versions of tar will support gzip. A *non official* patch
- for tar 1.11.1 is given in the gzip 0.8.1 distribution. With this
- patch, "tar -z" uses gzip, "tar -Z" uses compress.

- The CURRENT version of tar supports gzip. Simply install gzip as
- `compress' and it will work without a hitch.
