  31.    Future versions of tar will support gzip. A *non official* patch
  32.    for tar 1.11.1 is given in the gzip 0.8.1 distribution. With this
  33.    patch, "tar -z" uses gzip, "tar -Z" uses compress.

  35. The CURRENT version of tar supports gzip.  Simply install gzip as
  36. `compress' and it will work without a hitch.

  38. It is a very bad thing to use compress now that there is a better
  39. alternative.  Anyone using compress is deliberately helping the patent
  40. holders--change now, before you get sued!
