- I have used Epoch for some time, and I have been quite happy with it.
- However, I decided I should take a look a Lucid Emacs since I had
- heard good things about it and it seems to have more capabilities
- and better integration with X (e.g. popup menus, menu bars, etc.).
- The final point that convinced me was the section of the Lucid
- posting:
-
- > Work has begun on a merger of Epoch and Lucid Emacs. It seems likely that
- > the next release of Epoch will be based on Lucid Emacs instead of GNU Emacs
- > from the FSF.
-
- However, one thing bothers me about Lucid Emacs. I haven't found
- how one can separate the minibuffer from the screens as Epoch
- allows. Is this possible? I have found this "factoring" out
- of the minibuffer quite useful, and I'd hate to loose it.
- Does anyone know how to do this in Lucid Emacs?? Does anyone
- else like this feature of Epoch??
-
- The question of the menu bar arises pretty naturally from this point.
- Should one be able to separate the menu bar from the screen also,
- in a style similar to Frame Maker(R)?? Or should one be able to
- "factor" it out attached to the minibuffer. I REALLY like the ability
- to have several minimal screens each with a different file or
- different views of the same file.
-
- If anyone could tell me how to separate the minibuffer in Lucid
- Emacs, I'd be most grateful or if someone has a patch to allow this,
- that would be great too. And you Epoch Developers what is the
- merged version of Epoch and Lucid Emacs going to look like???
- What sort of time span is the merger likely to take?? etc. etc.

- thanks for any comments,
