- Not that I'm any expert on this, but I just want to spread one of my
- favourite theories, concerning emacs use.
-
- Emacs is heavily packed with functions handling various more or less
- exotic transformation to your text. My guess is (too lazy/forgetfull
- to follow it myself) that by carefull study of the proper modes,
- identifying those functions that could make a lot of difference, one
- could save lots of keystrokes by using one smart function rather than
- ten's of single strokes/commands.
-
- One example is the lisp sexp motion commands, or how about the
- transpose commands that can swap for instance two words in a single
- command. Or picture mode for those who need lots of non-standard
- cursor motion. If something is missing, one could even code it up. So
- be sure to check the commands of your favourite major mode. Especially
- in the language modes should there be lots of smart functions.
-
- Finally, one could check out emacs extensions such as epoch or lucid
- emacs which has menubar support. While menus isn't the solution to the
- common commands such char forward, they could provide buffer-dependent
- information, such as a menu of all defuns, providing an easy way to
- go to the right defun.
