  17. here's an extension of that idea:

  19. sort and thread all subscribed newsgroups every day at midnight or
  20. whenever with a cron job, saving the article lists to a file.  then
  21. when you read, simply read in the article lists and merge in articles
  22. that have arrived since midnight.

  24. voila.  has anybody done this?  any comments?  does it sound like a
  25. good idea?  any of the current maintainers thought of it?

  27. (hint: besides speeding things up considerably, it would allow really
  28. complex, interesting, normally very slow sorting to be done every
  29. night.)
