  12. Since most (all?) X fonts don't have a tab character (0x09), does this mean
  13. that it is impossible to get the functionality of a tab character in a Motif
  14. compound string?

  16. My need is in a List widget with a simple list of items that I want to tag
  17. with, say, A, B, C, etc. I.e.,

  20. B   item 2
  21. C   item 3

  23. This looks nice with spaces because you are probably using a monospaced
  24. font in your news viewer. Would look cruddy with a proportional font.

  26. If I want to use a proportional font in my List widget, then I would need
  27. a tab character to line up the second column nicely.
