  27. Because other vendors (e.g. Genoa) are also going to such a system
  28. for setting dot-clocks (as do many (most?) of the S3-based boards),
  29. XFree86 1.2 will add the capability to call an external program to
  30. set the dot-clock when video modes are entered.  This keeps us from
  31. having to hack the drivers when new hardware schemes for old chipsets
  32. are added.

  34. XFree86 1.2 will be released in a couple of weeks (I know, I've been
  35. saying that for a while.  We're still working out a few last bugs in
  36. the SVR3 shared libaries).  You will want this version.

  46. In the US, the legality of this is questionable (there have been court
  47. decisions in both directions).  I have no idea what, if anything, that
  48. implies where you are.

  50. That said, I know of at least one person who has done exactly what you
  51. describe.  I will not give out his name, for two reasons: (a) I don't
  52. want Diamond to get after him, and (b) I want to encourage people to
  53. return their Diamond boards and buy a board from a friendly vendor,
  54. such as Orchid.
