  14. I'm running Linux with Xfree and an ATI Ultra Pro on a Gateway Local Bus
  15. machine with no problems at all, which is causing me a bit of confusion.
  16. I know I shouldn't complain, since it works,
  17. but based on everything I've read, it shouldn't work.

  19. According to the FAQ, Xfree does not currently support 8514, and hence
  20. should not work with the ATI Ultra Pro.  The FAQ recommends that you use
  21. X8514 instead.  The problem I'm having is that Xfree works fine with my
  22. machine, and when I try to get X8514 to run, it complains that my monitor
  23. is not an 8514 monitor.  So I have a few questions:

  25.     o Has 8514 support been added to Xfree, but not to the FAQ?
  26.     o If not, and if I ever figure out how to get X8514 to run,
  27.       can I expect improved performance due to the fact that
  28.       Xfree isn't taking full advantage of the ATI board?
