- Really? Or perhaps they bought some software which requires the Motif library.
- Saying "what they got lumbered with buying from Sun" is yet another biased
- statement. We have bought Decs and rs6000s and have been lumbered with Motif..
- So much so that we take the trouble to compile OpenLook (from the FREE
- sources). Even for Suns (you can like OpenLook but dislike OpenWindows).

- Well, not that I am going to listen to the propaganda of the U.I. camp or the
- OSF camp, but I remember one guy from Sun saying that O.S.F. stands for
- Oppose Sun Forever...
- Whether or not you believe this, it is clear that the design and (HEAVY)
- push for Motif is politically based.

- We run OpenLook where possible. No complaints here. I wonder why?
- Perhaps it is because most users don't really care? Certainly not enough to
- complain.
- There are three issues here:
- 1) Which GUI the users chooses, which is a matter of personal tastes
- 2) Which GUI the organisation chooses, which is too often politically based
- 3) Which GUI/ toolkit the programmer chooses
-
- Fortunately for people here, there is no push from on high to adopt one
- "standard", so individual users and programmers make their own choices.
- I take a pragmatic approach: my first choice is whatever is FREE, available in
- source code and is simple to programme.
