  12. WHAT IS FWF?
  13. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  14. The Free Widget Foundation (FWF) commenced in the summer of 1990.  We
  15. began as an ad hoc, volunteer effort, to generate a publically
  16. accessible repository for X graphical user-interface modules
  17. (widgets).  Over time, many people have contributed widgets of varying
  18. degrees of complexity, and having application across a wide range of
  19. program domains.

  21. The 'Free Widget Foundation' is an obvious play on the 'Free Software
  22. Foundation', but we are not related to that organization in any way,
  23. apart from sharing the goal of having high-quality software available
  24. to the public at no cost.

  28. The success of this project depends solely on the work of the FWF volunteers.  
  29. Help us to develop the best, least expensive widget set for the X community!

  36. FileSelector,Histogram, ImageSelector, MultiList, PixelEditor, Rheostat, 
  37. ScrolledList, Slider are some of the widgets available in our growing
  38. collection.

  42. The latest version (3.4) of the FWF widget library can be obtained via

  58. We are  trying to construct a much-improved, much-extended version (4.0) of the
  59. free widget set. This version is tentatively scheduled for relase by the end of April,1993. You know where to find it then!!
