- We have a LOT of PCs at our site with attached printers. A number of
- users are converting from using these PCs as dumb terminals (currently
- most are using FTP Software's PC/TCP to connect to our UNIX boxes) to
- using them as X servers with Hummingbird's HCL eXceed/W.
-
- With the straight connect with PC/TCP we were able to write a program
- to send a job to their workstation printer because PC/TCP emulates a vt102
- rather than just a plain (no print capability) vt100. Hummingbird's telnet
- emulates a vanilla vt100; so it doesn't allow you to print if using that
- directly.
-
- When using Hummingbird's X server with PC/TCP, you still can't
- use the workstation printer directly. I think I understand why this
- is--there isn't a way to separate what was coming from one xterm (pty)
- and going to the screen and what was coming from another and destined for
- the printer. What I was wondering was if there was some way around this
- that would give us back at least some of the functionality of having attached
- printers at our workstations? Thanks for any help, advice, suggestions...
-
- Cheers--
