- Probably not. If B and N are both on the same physical net, and
- the same logical subnet, then which will be faster depends entirely
- on the relative configurations of the two machines and how badly
- they are loaded. At most sites you can assume that a fileserver is
- only used as a fileserver (no other load), and that the hardware and
- software may have been optimized to provide better service. (E.g.
- more RAM, PrestoServe boards, etc.) On the other hand, it is probably
- accessed by more workstations on a regular basis...

- To display on your machine, you have to run the X/NeWS server locally.
- You can then run programs remotely and have them display locally; but
- unless they require resources not readily availiable from your workstation,
- you'll probably get better response running them locally.

- The real question is whether to execute the server (and apps) from
- local disk or from a fileserver via NFS. Again, there's no solid
- answer. It depends a lot on the configuration of the workstation
- and of the fileserver, network load, specific program mix, etc.
