- Hardware: '386 w/ two 150meg ESDI hard disks, 1 controller. Originally a
- root and /u.
-
- I installed 3.2.4.1 on the /u disk, as a new installation (unplugged drive 0,
- plugged in drive 1 to 0's cables, then loaded the OS).
-
- Now I want to plug the original root drive into the new system (as drive 1),
- and mount it. I tried doing it and crashed the machine, no PANIC, just a
- good old DOA when I tried to "mkdev hd 1 0" or walk through the interactive
- "mkdev hd" installation.
-
- I reversed the disks again (0=old system, 1=new system) and booted 3.2.0.a.
- Although the system came up (barely, since it tried to mountall the former /u
- filesystem, failing with the above-mentioned complete halt of the machine.
- I had to emergency-boot the machine from floppy and edit out the second drive
- in /etc/default/filesys), I still can't mount the second drive.
-
- To summarize: Two bootable hard disks, neither is able to access the other.
-
- How can I fix this silly thing so one of the OSs can mount the other drive?
- I cannot destroy the boot tracks on either disk to accomplish this.
