  23.   The two user comes from this: once the personal UNIX workstation
  24. because a reality, vendors wanted lower licensing fees to drop the
  25. system price. ATT picked 2 user so you could have one on the console and
  26. a uucp login. There's also a 16 user price point, I believe, but it's
  27. not worth the effort.

  29.   The problem has been with vendors understanding two users. At one
  30. point one vendor (Microport??) counted separate VTs as users, then
  31. everyone counted the console as one, regardless of VTs. The SCO had ODT
  32. and counted getty's as users. You couldn't have a getty for uucp, one
  33. for the console, and one on the net, even if there was no one logged in.
  34. They fixed almost that, except for a problem which counts the ppp
  35. connection as a user, and will let you establish a ppp link, but not
  36. login over a serial line. I can't fault the letter of the
  37. implementation, but I can't justify $1500/system to have the unlimited
  38. ODT, and if I wanted to run SLIP I could use a less expensive o/s which
  39. has a nicer SLIP.
