  13. To all the DCE Gurus:

  16. 1.    What kinds of platforms is DCE intended to run on?  
  17. Suppose we write an application for AIX using DCE RPC, will it run
  18. without (i.e. that is, without) any modifications on say, for example
  19. a SUN OS, PC with Windows NT or OS/2 or a HP workstation?  
  20.     
  21. 2.    I have an application that is currently working fine with 
  22. HP RPC (Network Computing System).  How easy it is to convert it to
  23. DCE RPC?  I understand that the DCE comes with a Kerboros security
  24. system.  Can I easily integrate that kerboros thing into my NCS application?
  25. Is there any documentation for transition from NCS RPC to DCE RPC?

  27. 3.    Are there any courses on DCE Application Programming or
  28. DCE/DME system adm. internals free of charge?  
  29.     I guess, I am asking too much.

  31. 4.    Currently, our application has to run on as many different platforms
  32. as possible, with location of the servers transparent to the clients.  DCE
  33. seems to be an ideal solution, but we can't assume that DCE will be there on
  34. every client system that our software runs, so we would like to build a general
  35. communication class library which can work on top of any network protocol..
  36. RPC, TCP/IP, NetBIOS etc. So in the future if we need to have our software
  37. run on say, machine foobar without DCE on it, we can immediately say, oh
  38. you can run the software with our general comm. class library with this
  39. specific TCP/IP derived class..and you won't have any problems.
  40. Does any body know the existence of any communication class libraries
  41. which can run on top of RPC, TCP/IP, NetBIOS etc. 
  42.     I have all the respect for DCE, but I also want to take care of
  43. the case when my client machine doesn't have DCE installed on it.

  45. 5.  If I develop an application using DCE and market it, do I pay 
  46. any fee for the OSF for marketing a DCE application?

  49.     Some of the above may be real silly, but the fact is that
  50. I do not know answers to them.  So I thought I should get some
  51. advice from the wise folks out there on the network.  Not a bad idea..eh?
