- A friend currently without net access is having a small problem with
- backup and the -p option.
-
- The -p option tells backup to pack the files it puts on tape, thus
- saving tape at the expense of cpu cycles. Unfortunately, there is a
- 70 Meg file that backup -p refuses to compress.
-
- The file is compressable; compress squeezes the file from 70 Meg down
- to about 7 Meg.
-
- How does backup decide whether to compress the file or not? Is it
- based on available space on /tmp? Is it based on available memory
- swap space at the time?
-
- Thanks for any help you can provide.
