  11. I have put the following line in a LaTeX file.

  13.     \newcommand{\evec}{\mbox {$\vec{E}$}}
  14.  
  15. along with a lot of commands for symbols I frequently use (so I can 
  16. change the symbol easily if I so decide...
  17.  
  18. The problem is as follows.  When I say something
  19.  
  20.     The data base, \evec, is used to ...
  21.  
  22. all works well.
  23.  
  24. However when I say,
  25.  
  26.     The points in \evec are defined by ...
  27.  
  28. there is no space bewteen the bold "E" and the following word "are". 
  29.  
  30. I can remedy this by typing 
  31.  
  32.     The points in \evec\ are defined by ..
  33.  
  34. adding a space using "\ ".  However, is there any way for me to set
  35. up my command in \newcommand to do this automatically (i.e., leave
  36. a space if there is a following space, else not leave a space..
  37.  
  38. As, I do this for 50+ symbols in my thesis, it would really simplify
  39. my task to avoid having to add "\ " every time...
