- I also got fed up of this, so now I routinely start my macro sections
- with setting the \catcode of SPC TAB and RET to 9 (ignore). This is
- an immense relief. Only problem is when you need those characters
- in text strings - you then have to quote those characters (which\
- can\ be\ somewhat\ annoying) -- or, which is probably a better idea
- for other reasons as well, assign the strings to control sequences
- at the top of the file, before messing with the catcodes.

- It can be quite educating to do this to one of the 'official' style
- files, insert formatting characters to your hearts content, and then
- find that you suddenly understand what's going on...
