  15.     Note and Excuse: I am posting this to multiple news groups
  16. since I have some questions that may or may not be specific to
  17. different groups.  Please excuse the cross-posting.  Also, please
  18. respond to me via email since I don't regularly read all the groups.

  21.     I am considering purchasing a new printer for my DOS system.
  22. I currently am using a dot-matrix printer and definitely want
  23. something better.  My question is basically which is "better": a laser
  24. printer (i.e., laser-jet) or Ink-jet printer.  When I say "better", I
  25. am looking for information on:
  26.  
  27.       * Quality of output -- I know laser printers are GREAT, but
  28.     how does the quality of a good Ink-jet printer compare.
  29.     Would I regret it if I went with an ink-jet?
  30.  
  31.       * Cost (both initial and maintenance) -- From what I have seen,
  32.     ink-jet printers are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than laser
  33.     printers.  I also understand that the toner cartridges for
  34.     laser printers are fairly expensive.  Is this true?  How
  35.     often do the toner cartridges need to be replaced?  How
  36.     often do ink-jet printers need ink?  How expensive is that?
  37.     
  38.       * Compatibility -- Most of the software I have seen lately
  39.     supports several types of laser printers (specifically, the
  40.     HP laser-jet series and postscript).  How common is support
  41.     for ink-jet printers?
  42.     
  43.       * Compatibility revisited -- I do alot of work in LaTeX and
  44.     would need to find a dvi2?? program to print my dvi files on
  45.     the ink-jet printer.  Does anybody have any experience with
  46.     such a program?  A possibly related question might be
  47.     whether any ink-jet printers support postscript (with some
  48.     sort of upgrade possibly).

  50. Those are pretty much the questions I have right now.  If anybody has
  51. any suggestions or preferences, I would love to hear them.  Please
